Insider Tip
Prepare for the cell reception and amenities to be minimal. Bring a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a hat for sun protection. Consider wearing comfortable shoes for walking around the hot springs area. Be sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated in the desert climate. Avoid summer – daytime temps routinely exceed 100 °F; it’s 5–10 °F hotter and windier than forecasts suggest. Spring and fall bring milder temps and stable roads; winter may bring storms and snow on high passes. The park doesn’t prohibit nudity, but discourages lewd behavior. Expect wild burros, coyotes, and even military jets overhead. Avoid glass containers and leash pets (they can’t go in the pools). Bring emergency comms, there will probably be no cell reception—satellite devices can be a lifesaver. Desert dehydration is real, carry plenty of water & shade. Pool temps can exceed 110°F—take breaks and cool off. Check weather/roads before going to make sure you're safe and avoid being stuck in extreme conditions.
