Next, you'll hear the wild history of one of the ghost towns near Las Vegas: the one and only Nelson Nevada Ghost Town. In the late 1800s, this remote mining town was truly lawless – full of outlaws, Civil War runaways, and even fighting between rival groups that sometimes led to daily killings. You'll learn about figures like "Queho," Nevada's reported first serial killer. Today, Nelson has been brought back to life, with old buildings restored to show what the old mining town was like. You'll also take a one-hour tour through the Techatticup Mine, Southern Nevada's oldest and richest mine, which operated from 1861 to 1945. You'll walk a quarter-mile on a single gravel path and see where gold and silver were pulled from the earth. Fun fact: the mine's name, "Techatticup," actually means "hungry" in the Paiute Indian language! If you choose to upgrade your tour, you'll also visit Spring Mountain State Park, located just 17 miles west of the Strip, right next to Red Rock Canyon.
